A special, menthone-rich quality of Egyptian peppermint dominates this streamlined re-reading of the fougère family. Pepper and rose geranium assert the note’s explosive, masculine character while cèdre cœur (a fractioned distillation of cedar wood essential oil) brings a clean, powdery feel. Black tobacco absolute and Tolu resinoid add smoky oriental inflections to the ambroxan and white musk base.
Peppermint and the embalming ritual: an unknown story. The mummies of Pharaonic Egypt are often accompanied by flowers in their final resting place. A garland made of peppermint (Mentha piperita) was found in 1884 in a tomb. Writings point to several other species of mint, also used in ancient Egyptian funeral techniques, like myrrh, cinnamon and vegetable oils. Several other species of mint have been reported. – 1897
